Week 23: From grape to grapefruit

Week 23 and Bean is the size of a grapefruit. Mom definitely looks like Bean is the size of a grapefruit instead of a grape, but don't tell her I said that. This week, Bean can feel Mom sway and dance - which is great because we all know Mom does that a lot. She's also developing lots of new blood vessels to prepare her for breathing, and she's getting used to the sounds of the outside world like car horns and my barking.

In case anyone was wondering like me, Mom snapped a photo while she was away last week. I bet Bean is going to have some big Polish cheeks, based on this picture of Mom when she was just a baby. I'm working on getting a picture of Dad for next week's post.

and mouth open
Mom feels great. She has a lot more energy than she's had before which is good because she is really busy at work. They are moving her office into a new location. This meant construction, and Bean had a chance to help with it this week. Pop-Pop Babiarz was really excited to see Bean experience her demolition. She handled it like a pro, as you would expect. Dad was happy to have the whole family back together after traveling, and this weekend he and Mom are setting up Bean's crib. Apparently, a "crib" is just a bigger doggie crate that the baby sleeps in. I offered to share mine, but Mom and Dad insisted on a new one for the baby.

Week 22: Better late than never!

Week 22 - it's been crazy! This week was a big deal for Bean... a lot of firsts.  It was her first concert (Paramore and Fall Out Boy), her first baby shower (in PA thrown by Grammy and Aunt Marge), and the first time she reached ONE POUND in size. Wowzers!!! Bean is the size of a papaya, and she's starting to develop sleep patterns. She sleeps about 12-14 hours per day, but (as you would suspect) those aren't usually the times when Mom is sleeping. Bean is also kicking and moving around like crazy! Sometimes I can see her kicking Mom's belly ---- from the outside!  I think Bean is going to be a soccer star like Dad or a ninja like Mom wishes she was.

Mom at 22 weeks at her baby shower
This week, Bean went to a concert in Tampa with Mom and Dad's friends Ryan and Judy. They left me at home, but that's ok. I fell asleep watching Law & Order.

They had a great time at the concert though. They went to see Paramore and Fall Out Boy. Mom and Dad saw Fall Out Boy when they were in college, so it was a really fun for them to go again, but this time with Bean.  She loved the drums and was kicking the whole time!

Mom also left me and Dad at home for a long weekend of boy bonding while she went up north to visit Grammy and Pop-Pop. She had a baby shower while she was there! I'm told that's where humans give other humans gifts, but it sounds more like a weird bathing situation to me. While Mom was gone, Dad and I did this:
Me and Dad snuggling and watching TV
But Mom and Bean got the royal treatment! I'm super jealous!! Bean got so many lovely gifts and SO many cute new toys for me to steal. Grammy and Aunt Marge pulled out all the stops for Bean's very special day, and Mom was really touched by so many people coming to see her. It was a very special day for both of them, but I'm really happy to have Mom home. Mom is posting all of the baby shower pictures on Facebook, so be sure to check on that as well.

Aunt Marge did a great job.

Week 21: 21 Bump Street

21 weeks and counting!  Bean is the size of a pomegranate and is busy growing, growing, and more growing. Mom and Dad have had a fun time beginning to decorate Bean's room, although they're still working on the details. This week, Bean has been making it difficult for Mom to get a good night's sleep but thankfully her thrashing about hasn't woken me or Dad.

Mom is getting ready to head up north to celebrate Bean with a baby shower next week. Dad and I are looking forward to having a guy's weekend. I think it will consist of beer, Netflix shows, and golf.  I'll probably nap a bunch, too. Have to get the guy time in while we can. I think Bean is going to tip the scales in favor of the ladies....
21 weeks....it's getting hot in Florida

Week 20: 50 yard line!!

We made it! Mom is finally at the halfway point, and Bean is the size of a banana. I was going to make an inappropriate joke ("Is that a banana in your pocket....") but I decided against it. Keeping it PG, folks.  Right now, Bean has fully developed HER taste buds. Boy, oh boy. I'm really happy I finally get to use gender specific pronouns.

Mom - still happy at 20 weeks.
Mom and Dad got a chance to see Bean really well and for a long time on Monday. She did really well in the ultrasound. She slept for most of the time, which was great. The tech was able to get a lot of really neat photos of the baby.  Mom and Dad even saw her yawn and hiccup on the ultrasound - very cool!!  Here are some of her best photos from the session.

Such a cute little nose

Look at her tiny feet - she's going to love shoes, just like
her mom and dad do

Not an alien baby. That's her umbilical cord by her nose.
She sat very still during the 3D ultrasound, which was great.

Who Run The World....

GIRLS.  They run the world.  And now, so will Bean.  Because Bean is a GIRL!!!

Beyonce is excited.

 Troy and Abed are excited.

Ron Swanson is excited.

Mom and Dad are excited.

And I am REALLY excited.

Look at me in my pink blanket
I'm going to teach my new baby sister how to stick out her tongue, too!!!

Week 19: Virgin mango daiquiri for one!

Week 19 - so close to halfway there. Bean is the size of a mango this week and is starting to develop his/her five senses. Bean's also still wiggling around a lot, and Mom hopes Dad will be able to feel some of it soon.

Speaking of big things --- we find out whether Bean is a boy or a girl on Monday!!! Keep your eyes peeled for a special gender post on Monday night. Don't worry, readers. I won't leave you hanging!  Start placing your bets now....

Mom and Bean at 19 weeks - she's still smiling!
That's a good sign.
In other news, Mom and Dad bought a Snoogle pregnancy pillow so that Mom could start sleeping a little more soundly.  That's good for me too, because she's been waking me up at all hours of the night readjusting pillows and going to the bathroom. Ugh.  But the Snoogle is amazing. It's a gigantic "C" shaped pillow....and I LOVE it.

Me....snuggling with the Snoogle. It's heavenly.

Week 18: Sweet Poe-ta-toe (da, da, da)

This week, my inspiration is 'merica!!  And Neil Diamond! So now I have "Sweet Caroline" stuck in my head which sounds a lot like Sweet Poe-ta-toe... or maybe not. This week was hard.  Bean is the size of a sweet potato.  Mom is the size of a pregnant woman. Dad pretty much looks the same.

Bean is moving around like crazy and now spends time during the day yawning, hiccuping, and wiggling around.  Mom's back has started aching if she sits or stands for too long, but Dad has been doing a great job giving back rubs. And I'm still really good at snuggling....which I hear is great for back aches.

This week we celebrated Independence Day by staying at home and lounging on the couch. Mom and Dad got back from a great trip up north, and I had a wonderful time with Grandma and Grandpa Hughes. But we were tired. So we ate yummy home-cooked food, Mom, Dad, and Bean spent some time on a boat, and I caught up on my beauty rest. It's been great!

Mom and Bean at 18 weeks - She looks pregnant now!

So happy to have my buddies home.
